The Green Bay Packers will release veteran offensive tackle Chad Clifton on Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. According to Schefter, Clifton failed his physical after undergoing back surgery this off-season. A second round pick out of Tennessee in 2000, Clifton has started 160 of 165 games for the Packers over the last 12 seasons, earning two trips to the Pro Bowl (2007, 20100. Clifton, 35, was limited to six games during the 2011 regular season by a partially torn hamstring and was entering the final season of a three-year, $19.3875 million contract. Clifton's release will free up $5.75 million in cap space for the Packers, who were only $3.35 million under the cap as of last week. Source: Mac's Football Blog
I feel sorry for him, always liked him. I think his will be the end for his career. It's nice to regain some capspace, but on the other hand, I hate to see Rodgers being protected, by an old C and, a bunch of late round picks, since we didn't have much vets left in the o-line
Not really surprising. I think the Packers knew this was coming last season. Plus it's time for the two young guys to start...
Looks like the Green Bay Slackers are looking to revamp the team. Looks like there will be no 15-1 season for them this coming year.
