Dante Wesley says he made a mistake, mistimed a hit and is not a dirty player. Nevertheless, the Carolina defensive back will accept his punishment of a one-game suspension for a flagrant hit on Tampa Bay Buccaneers punt returner Clifton Smith during the Panthers' 28-21 victory. "I was just trying to make a play," Wesley said after the game. "You can check my record. ... I've never really tried to hurt anybody." Wesley said he planned to try to contact Smith to personally apologize. "I also want to apologize to the fans," he told the Charlotte Observer. "That's not like me. I wasn't trying to be a dirty player. With me being a hard player, it's crazy that something like this would happen."
