The Carolina Panthers paid a steep price for Armanti Edwards but they think he's going to be worth it. The Panthers traded next year's second-round pick to New England to move into the late third round, so they could choose Edwards 89th overall. "You're talking about him having a year to develop and a year to train at the wide receiver position and returns, and whatever we use him as," Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said. "I think hopefully, we'll see in a year that that was the right thing to do. He's just got a lot of qualities that make you think he's going to be a very good football player at this level." Edwards played quarterback while winning two national titles and two Walter Payton Awards (the FCS Heisman), but the Panthers are looking at him as a receiver and a returner. "He obviously is a project a little bit because he played quarterback," Hurney said. "But the versatility he brings. He's an athlete, he's a football player. He plays the game with an intensity, a toughness that you like. He's got speed, and he's just a competitive tough football player. He is a very good athlete who has a terrific football demeanor and is a football player. We came into this draft hoping we could find a way to get him." Source: Charlotte Observer
Lol. There is no justification for a move like that. I like the guy, personally, but this was a foolish move.
