In a Monday interview on FOX Sports Radio, Panthers general manager Marty Hurney strongly suggested that Carolina will take a quarterback at No. 1 overall. "This is a quarterback league," said Hurney. "Look at the order of the draft. The ones who have 'em are picking low, and the ones who don't are picking high." Hurney added, "This has nothing to do with Jimmy Clausen." The interview was done with Darin Gantt of the Charlotte Observer, the top Panthers beat writer in the nation. Gantt is convinced the pick will be Auburn quarterback Cam Newton. Source: FOX Sports 730 Charlotte
THIS is the biggest bullcrap of all of it. How could it NOT have a lot, let alone nothing, to do with Clausen?
Im gonna give him the benefit of the doubt and say it is, unless he has access to the checkbook to take a 70 to 80 million dollar gamble. Just take Dareus or Green and sign a vet QB whenever free agency starts.
ALL pre-draft hints and rumors are a smoke screen. What if they want to trade down and pick up some picks with someone who REALLY wants a Newton or another QB?
