The winless Carolina Panthers are changing quarterbacks again, benching struggling rookie Jimmy Clausen and turning again to Matt Moore. Coach John Fox announced Monday that Moore will start on Sunday against San Francisco. The move comes as Carolina has scored a league-low 52 points and has the league's worst-rated passing game. Moore started the first two games, but was benched after committing six turnovers. Clausen hasn't fared much better, completing just 47 percent of his passes with one touchdown and three interceptions, but Clausen has fumbled seven times, losing three. Moore closed last season 4-1 as a starter in relief of Jake Delhomme, who was released in March. Source: Associated Press
Who was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Dallas Cowboys in 2007. They tried to sneak him through waivers, but the Panthers claimed him.
When they decide to go with Clausen, they might as well just ride him out the season, let him develope. Silly to bench him now, season is almost certainly a lost cause, time to rebuild.
I agree with that as well; see David Carr. I think the ideal situation was not have him start at all this year. Can't help his confidence being benched, but if he can't handle it, he has no place in the pros anyway.
That is certainly a good theory guys but Fox is in the final season of his contract.....he may not even be around to oversee Clausen's development. He probably wants to win now in hopes of landing an extension. Moore can't do much worse than Clausen. He lost his job because of a concussion and I believe he was rushed back too early against Tampa Bay. He didn't fare too well against the Giants either though..... I will say that.
Back to the Bench for Jenny Clausen. I haven't forgotten about Pike, iunno is he ready to start in the NFL?
