Keep Pounding. That's what late Panthers linebacker and assistant Sam Mills told the team before the 2003 playoffs, after he was diagnosed with cancer. It's a mantra which adorns the inside collar of Nike's new NFL uniforms, unveiled Tuesday in New York. "When I found out I had cancer, there were two things I could do — quit or keep pounding," Mills told the team. "I'm a fighter. I kept pounding. You're fighters, too. Keep pounding!" The Panthers went on to a Super Bowl berth, losing to the Patriots 14 months before Mills died at age 45. A mural reading "Keep Pounding" adorns the Panthers weight room and a fund started by Mills and former linebacker Mark Fields raises money for cancer research in North Carolina. Source: USAToday
Even as a 49er fan I loved Sam Mills when he played for the Saints...I was jealous they had him and we didn't.
