Intent on having a successful rookie season despite not having the benefit of an NFL offseason to prepare for his first year with the Carolina Panthers, quarterback Cam Newton is working hard at IMG Sports Academy in Florida. "It was brought to my attention that if you take care of your number one goal, two, three, four, five - they will be taken care of," Newton told the Charlotte Observer. "My number one goal is to be a great football player." The former Heisman Trophy winner and Auburn star said he studies the best quarterbacks. Newton has had extremely limited exposure to offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski: a single day. "There's an old saying, 'Men lie. Women lie. But statistics don't lie.' And when I look at the statistics as far as coach Chudzinski and his offense and his philosophy, it works," Newton said. "I'm looking at Philip Rivers, year in and year out he's in the top five, if not the top three. And I think this past year he was the top passer in the NFL. And for me to see that and know that, that's some impressive stuff. I'm pumped. I'm excited. Because I feel like if Philip can do it, I can do it, too." Source: National Football Post
