With Panthers quarterback Matt Moore likely to re-sign, the bigger question will be if he’s the starter after going 4-1 last season. Jake Delhomme, who was 4-7 in 2010 and threw 18 interceptions, will almost certainly be back with the Panthers still having to pay him $12.7 million of his original guaranteed $20 million. Moore starting is not as much of a slam dunk as some people might think, like it or not, head coach John Fox has always been loyal to Jake Delhomme. Source: Gaston Gazette
Yup, let Moore and Delhomme battle it out in training camp for the starting job. If Delhomme earns the starting job, he earns it, but don't hand it to him, regardless of how much money he's making next year.
the management and coaching staff in carolina have always overrated delhomme in my opinion. i'm not sure what their love affair is with the guy. were they just so amazed that they won an nfc championship so many years ago with him under center in his first year that they guaranteed him a job for life?
Delhomme fell off from his peak so quickly it's kind of shocking. I likethe guy as a person, but his time is done as QB. Matt Moore has flatout earned the starting job, especially based on who they have on staff.
I've been wondering the exact samething. What do the Panthers see in Delhomme? Do they even realize the 2003 season was so 7 years ago?
Matt Moore bought John Fox another year as the Panthers Head Coach with his play down the stretch. He would be a fool not to at least give Moore an opportunity to win the starting job. You don't play someone ahead of another just because of contracts.
