The anticipated competition for the long-snapping job between J.J. Jansen and Nick Sundberg ended much sooner than expected Friday when the Panthers released Sundberg. The move paralleled Carolina's signing of linebacker Kelvin Smith, a 2007 seventh-round pick by Miami who played four games for the Dolphins in '07 and spent last season on injured reserve with a knee injury.
