Panthers GM Marty Hurney reiterated that they have no plans to trade RB Jonathan Stewart at any point in the season. “He’s a very talented player,†Hurney said during a radio interview on Tuesday, via CBS Charlotte. “He fits our Panther profile perfectly, and he’s somebody that we would like to extend for a lot of years.†Stewart is entering the final year of his rookie contract and the fact that the Panthers have signed DeAngelo Williams to a long-term deal and also added Mike Tolbert during free agency, makes it seem like they could at least consider the idea. One interesting note to pass along; Williams’ deal has no guaranteed money following the 2012 season, so the Panthers could end up re-signing Stewart and either asking Williams to take a pay cut or release him outright. I like him better than any RB on the Steelers roster. What would you give for him...K Train?
No chance they can move Williams this year, that extension was obviously a blunder. But he was so unimpressive last year they really can't afford to move Stewart and still balance an offense..not really a good move here for them either way in my view.
