Steve Smith said he received several text messages from friends around the country about the possibility of him being traded to another team, one of those being the Miami Dolphins, prior to Tuesday’s trade deadline. In fact, Smith received so many that he went as far as to contact his agent to see if there was any truth to them. “I heard multiple teams I was going to,â€￾ Smith said during the team's open locker session on Wednesday. “You hear the stories about waking up and being traded. You never want to be a guy who wakes up Carolina and hears there is a flight for you going somewhere else, so when you hear that you ask people. I asked my agent if there was anything going on. I got a few texts from different people in different states, so I had to make sure and investigate it.â€￾ When contacted about the rumors, Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said they were completely false. “We had no conversations with anybody about trading Steve Smith,â€￾ Hurney said.

Would've been a nice receiver for some team and probably would've brought in a few nice draft picks for the Panthers...he's just rotting away in Carolina right now...

Steve Smith is the only reason the Panthers have anything resembling a passing attack. If the Panthers trade him, they better send Jake Delhomme with him.

who would anyone want to trade for him? if this is a contract year, teams could sign him as a free agent in 6 months. if the guy is still under contract, he's probably getting huge dollars and will be released after the season and then a team could get him for less money and without giving up draft picks.

oh i think the guy as def on the block, but the cotracts and the money was just too much for the teams that were interested. don't ever think an owner is telling the truth right after the trade dead line
