When Bill Belichick mentioned that he felt the Patriots got good value in a trade for running back LeGarrette Blount, he probably wasn’t just talking about what the team gave up to acquire him (seventh-round pick and Jeff Demps). The value extends to Blount’s contract, which was renegotiated to consummate the trade. Blount was scheduled to earn $1.2 million in base salary with the Buccaneers in 2013, with additional bonus money, but the deal was slashed to $630,000 with the Patriots (and is reduced to $358,000, via a split, if he lands on injured reserve). Blount can also earn a $50,000 workout bonus in New England. With that type of contract, it furthers the line of thinking that acquiring Blount is a low-risk, high-reward transaction. 'huge' paycut? he's basically working for $620,000 less this year on a 1-year deal in a good environment for he and his agent to possibly have a good year and save his nfl career. the bucs were going to cut this guy anyway. can't say i see anything magical that belichick did here. the teams simply swapped guys they were both going to cut.
