The New England Patriots have released safety Brandon Meriweather, Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports. Earlier on Saturday afternoon, The Boston Globe reported the Patriots were attempting to trade Meriweather, who was due $1.65 million in base salary in the final year of his rookie contract. Selected with the 24th overall pick of the 2007 NFL Draft, the 5-foot-11, 200-pound Meriweather has 261 tackles, two quarterback sacks and 12 interceptions during his 64-game career with the Patriots. Meriweather has started 40 games over the last three seasons and has gone to back-to-back Pro Bowls. Meriweather's on-field performance hasn't warranted his Pro Bowl status, though, with the former University of Miami standout frequently finding himself on the bench. Source: Mac's Football Blog
Bandwagon 'tards made him a two time pro-bowler and will probably make a packet elsewhere because of those phony credentials. Still, with Haynesworth on the roster they went over their scumbag quota and someone hadta pay.
Wouldn't hurt for the G-Men to explore him for depth.......we could use him. Especially since Antre Rolle will split time at CB this season.
Just heard on the chicagobears.com message board that the Bears have signed Meriweather to a 1 year deal.
Good riddance. He never lived up to what he was supposed to be. He blew way to many plays trying to make the big hit.
