The Patriots have released offensive lineman Braxston Cave and tight end Matthew Mulligan. Cave had been claimed off waivers Sunday after being released by Cleveland. He was a third-team All-American at Notre Dame.

Mulligan, a Bangor, Maine, native who played at the University of Maine and has spent four years in the NFL (three with the Jets, last season with St. Louis), was signed as a free agent Tuesday. He has 20 starts among his 50 NFL appearances, catching 14 passes for 144 yards and one touchdown.
