The New England Patriots had a familiar face in for a workout on Monday, as veteran defensive end Andre Carter, who recorded 10 sacks for the team in 2011, was brought in for a look, according to a league source.

Carter had his 2011 season cut short due to a quad injury, landing on injured reserve. There was mutual interest between him and the team for a reunion last offseason, but Carter eventually landed in Oakland, recording 2.5 sacks in 12 games played.

He's been out of work since, and the Patriots' interest could be due to their relative lack of depth at the position. The team had four defensive ends active for their season-opening win over the Buffalo Bills, but Jake Bequette, their 2012 third-round pick, did not play a single defensive snap.
