Just wanted to add this before you answer. I can also drop C. Patterson. That seems crazy to say because I have a keeper league and he could fix this in the offseason...(that's open ended on purpose)... So, is Jonas Gray worth a drop of someone? He won't see much against the Lions and then he has the Packers before I start my playoffs. I have the most cash left for waiver moves so he can easily be mine.....
That was a pretty impressive outing...in most other cases (ie: if he had done that for another team) I'd be planting a flag and starting him without question...but he plays for Bill Belichek so that means that next week he'll get 2 carries for 4 yards and Vereen will have 35 touches for 297 total yards and seventeen touchdowns. Never trust a Belly Back, he's been fantasy RB poison since Corey Dillon left. Id roster him (in fact I already had him rostered in a couple) on the strength of that game, no doubt, but boy am I ever wary of starting him. I want to see consecutive games with good touches and production before I plug him in.
Id drop Patterson or Vereen for him in a second. Youre deep at both positions anyway, how many keepers do you get? I wouldnt have Patterson as a keeper target with that roster unless its almost full rosters kept.
I picked Gray up a couple weeks ago pretty much based on him being the "goto" guy in New England...but as Walnuts said, the "goto" guy in NE isn't always the guy who gets fed the ball consistently. Pats have a tougher run matchup next week...so you might see a down game for him. I think he's one you have to just stick with and play the match up and hope for the best.
Gray will probably continue to get some td's in goal line situations but I think vereen will typically get more carries. Who knows wit belichick though.
