ST. LOUIS (AP)—St. Louis Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan is taking a leave of absence to attend to wife Jeanine as she recovers from surgery to remove a brain tumor. The team said Thursday night that no timetable has been determined for Duncan’s return. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that the 66-year-old Duncan intends to step down. The team said general manager John Mozeliak and manager Mike Matheny will meet to determine how the team will fill Duncan’s position during his absence. Mozeliak didn’t return a telephone message from the AP. Duncan coached alongside manager Tony La Russa for 33 seasons, the last 16 with St. Louis, before La Russa retired following the team’s World Series championship. Duncan missed several weeks last season tending to his wife after surgery in August, returning the final week of the regular season. Source:Yahoo
