Miles Austin is set to become a Restricted free Agent this offseason. The way he has played so far this year has shown that he has what it takes to be counted on as a future starter, however he hasnt done enough to justify a long term contract. Luckily being a RFA, a long term deal is not nessesary this season, we can slap him with a tender.

The question is, what tender do you think we give him?

Here is the tender cost via Wiki

    Tender amounts

In 2007, a second-round tender offer was added. The four tender amounts for 2008 are as follows:[1]
    Tender amount Compensation required
    $2.562 million First- and third-round
    $2.017 million First-round
    $1.417 million Second-round
$927,000 Determined by RFA's original draft status (see below)

Personally, I would like to see him slapped with a 1st. I think there are teams (Miami tried to pry him from us this past offseason) that may be willing to take him for the price of a second. Talent wise Austin has the ability of a 1st round WR, he just came into the NFL as an "athlete". I would rather keep the guy we have put time in developing than to let him go and roll the dice on another young WR

Depends if you really want to keep him or are you just trying to ensure you get something for him in a trade if another team shows interest. It also depends on cap room. The Pokes have a lot of money invested in their WR corps so if they can slap a first round tender on him and get a 2nd round pick or a combination of lower picks, it might be worth doing.
