As it turns out, Zach Miller was never in the Oakland Raiders franchise tag plans. Despite heavy rumors to the contrary, the tight end was “not going to be franchisedâ€￾ according to Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune. Instead, the Raiders plan all along was to tag Stanford Routt if they weren’t able to reach a new deal before the tag deadline. Once a three-year, $31.5 million was reached with the team’s new No. 1 cornerback, they were free to use it on linebacker Kamerion Wimbley. He too was not in the Raiders original plans, but the tag became a matter of convenience once his contract buyback was disallowed because of the NFL’s 30 percent rule.

I thought they would franchise Miller too.

Its in the works to get him signed to a big contract soon. Not 1 to be worried about because he wants to stay in Oakland.
