The St. Louis Rams released wide receiver Donnie Avery, the first receiver taken in the 2008 draft, and quarterback Thaddeus Lewis, who has been very impressive in the preseason according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The Rams actually attempted to trade Avery, who missed the entire 2010 regular season with a knee injury that required surgery. But with no takers, he was released. Lewis also was a cut that was decided on just before the 5 p.m. roster deadline. Source: The Redzone
