The St. Louis Rams are taking a low-risk look at a high-priced bust. The team announced that it has signed defensive end Vernon Gholston, the sixth overall pick of the 2008 draft by the New York Jets. Gholston never got his career going with the Jets and was signed by the Chicago Bears last summer. Gholston, an Ohio State product, was ineffective in preseason for them and was cut. The Rams have been looking for an edge rusher and were reported to also be investigating veteran performer Andre Carter. Source: National Football Post
And to think that there was quite a sizeable portion of the Rams fan base that were pissed when Chris Long was drafted over him. Thankfully, not everyone was sold on this juiced-up workout warrior and he flamed out for the Jets instead  If he makes the team, however...then we have real problems on the edge.
"juiced up" give me a break, both he and long were INSANE athletes, long was just the better DE i liked gholston more, i was infatuated with him....he was amazing at OSU, lets not pretend he wasnt ironic he lands with the rams though
That was whilst he was at OSU. You don't need a degree in Sports Science to recognise that is not a natural physique. The only other legitimate explanation is that he was spending the time he should have been practising on the field, in the gym getting jacked. Either way, he flamed out and will always be associated with the tag of being a workout warrior.
like hes an amazing athlete, his measurables were damn near exactly the same as longs. He if a weight lifter though, no doubt about it thats not a football body, kinda like laron landry who during the offseason looks like a body builder more than a FS. and yeah hes the poster child for a workout warrior, hes too stiff to play OLB and i really dont know the excuse for not being able to play with his hand down, i thought his stint with the bears was his best shot, playing with julius peppers across from him. The rams dline is intimidating now though...long, brockers, langford, quinn, and gholston are freakishly big and fast
Maybe Gholston is better with his hand down and Fisher thinks he can get something out of his freakish measurables. I think he's soft however. And a straight up punk isn't going to last long on talent alone.
When an OLineman can put a hand on your hip and pretty much just slide you out of the way, that's a problem...a major one.
