Once again, the Baltimore Ravens have defeated the Broncos. Elvis Dumervil, one of the best defensive ends in Broncos history, has agreed to a multiyear contract with the Ravens, according to two NFL sources. Dumervil's departure occurs 10 weeks after Baltimore stunned the Broncos, 38-35 in double-overtime of a second-round AFC playoff game on a below-zero windchill Saturday afternoon. The Broncos are expected to focus on signing defensive end John Abraham, who had 10 sacks and six forced fumbles for the Atlanta Falcons last season — or just one less sack than Dumervil. Former Indianapolis Colt Dwight Freeney is also a possibility if the Broncos can't reach an agreement with Abraham. Source: Denver Post

Dumervil ends up bagging about $500k more than if his deal with the Broncos would have gone through. Upgrade over Kruger and a helluva pickup for the Ravens. I have always liked Dumervil's game and the man has shown he can make it work in a 3-4. He just knows how to get to the QB.
obviously, having elvis over kruger is an upgrade and if they got him at a better price, then props to them. once again though, these pass rushers don't seem very valued right now ...... its a heavily incentivized (is that a word?) contract and is low risk for the ravens.
Oz basically traded Kruger(40 million) for Dummervil(26 million actual value) and a compensatory pick(likely 4th rd for Kruger) lol, and he still hasnt signed a player that will count towards compensatory picks yet! I thought Flacco was hoarding all the cap space lol
Well "between Flacco and Dumervil, the Ravens screwed themselves with too much..." Look, I hate the Ravens as much as the next guy, but I can't knock them and the people saying the contracts are terrible are just looking at a whole number and not the "real contract."
Yeah i try not to criticize any contract until i know the true value, some contracts just pay guys way to much in general but others dont once you find out the structure of it. Bottom line is everybody is gonna overpay at times, i think you only do it on premium positions imo QB, Pass Rushers, or elite players at other positions.
Krugers got a better all-around game than Dumervil as an OLB and their run D at the position will suffer some, but still...Suggs and Dumervil coming off both ends is going to be freaking scary.
Actually Kruger was pretty brutal against the run outside of some splash plays. There is a reason he didn't start. I expect Upshaw to play plenty of snaps at outside backer to keep both guys fresh as well as being a guy we will move around. With Ngata moving to nose tackle full time, Canty at end and Spears giving us 10 to 15 run snaps a game we are gonna be significantly improved vs the run.
