Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti, who speaks publicly two or three times a year, called Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun late last night to address the trade debacle with the Chicago Bears: “I’m disappointed in the Bears and the McCaskeys [the Bears’ owners]. It is in my opinion a deviation from their great legacy. They concluded that their heartfelt and admirable apology was sufficient for our loss. All of us at the Ravens strongly disagree … probably end of story.†On Thursday night, the Ravens and Bears agreed on a trade in which they would switch places in the first round and the Ravens would receive Chicago’s fourth-round pick in return. Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome called the NFL with three minutes remaining to inform the league of the deal, but the Bears never phoned the league because of a reported miscommunication (Bears general manager Jerry Angelo said the confusion was caused when a pair of Bears staff members thought the other was phoning in the trade). The Bears extended an apology to the Ravens, but not the fourth-round pick. “It was our fault,†Angelo told reporters Thursday night. “They did everything according to the rules. . . . We had a disconnect. Whatever you hear, Baltimore did everything right.†According to ESPN, Roger Goodell would not order the Bears to compensate the Ravens, but the NFL commissioner encouraged them to do so, and the Bears declined (in fact, Chicago has already traded that fourth-round pick to Washington to move up in the second round Friday). "A mistake was made. No rule was broken, OK, so let’s just make that clear here," Angelo said. "As I said [Thursday] night, we made the proper amends from our part and certainly there was no intent other than to do the best we could, and it just didn’t work out." Angelo added, "We made an honest mistake. No more than that. There was total transparency. I don't blame Bisciotti and the Ravens one bit.....the Bears showed complete incompetence by not phoning the league after they agreed to the deal. They still got their guy but it's a matter of principle. Agreed..... Some strong words but it sums it up......
Freaking get over it. It's not like you lost out on the player you wanted. The Bears balked at the deal last minute/hecked it up...whatever. Lesson learned, don't trade with the Bears...trades fall through every day. Freaking bunch of whiners...
At first I was just shaking my head at what seemed to be yet another Bear snafu but after hearing the details, it wasn't something as big as some of the media has made of it. This is a non story IMO & in the future, teams wanting something that benefits them from the Bears/JA won't by-pass the opportunity, they'll just not wait till the last second which is a prudent move no matter who you're dealing with. Besides, I would have been more upset if I heard after the fact that we could have gotten Carimi without spending the pick.

Wow, im sorry my team is upset about having an agreement with someone who dropped the ball on their end and then try to get compensated for it *sarcasm*, you ever think the reason they are arguing it the way they have is to stress its importance to try to get some sort of compensation. It's over now, we move on but im shocked we're getting blasted for this, if it was any of your teams i wonder what you would expect...a closed mouth doesnt get fed.

As soon as you can explain how they've done the same thing in the past & offered nothing in return while whining now about the 'lack of honor' on the Bears part, I'll send over my apologies along with a fruit basket to patch things up...
I'll put it in the simplest terms, had an agreement, Bears failed to hold their end, Ravens tried to be compensated for holding up their end, i have no problem with that....now biscuit comments i dont care for but at the same time i dont really care, we did what anyone would have done, they said no, we move on.
It's a shame that at the end of the day, it's the fans that get screwed for stupid crap like this. Sorry you're on the short end of the stick. I agree that it was worth the attempt at compensation, just that the past history of the Ravens doing the same thing smacks of hypocrisy. No disrespect to Ravens fans. Besides, I'm none too proud of the Bears in this mess as it is... On a side note, I'm sure Mike Tice has a good sense of 'payback's a snitch'. lol
Chicago for whatever reason...personally, I think they just decided to bail...didn't do the deal. It's not like Chicago called it in and then backed out...It was never "finalized." can't take Chicago for their word evidentally. I don't know that if it were the Steelers in the Ravens shoes that I would be bent about it. I'd just say heck the Bears and move on. I could understand some sort of compensation if you think something has to be held to some sort of standard but a 4th round pick is too high IMO.
I'm just glad in the next drafts people will be making fun of the Ravens for not getting their pick in instead of the Vikings. I hope, at least.
Raven's should be pissed and try to get the pick. Bears should be humble and try not to pay the pick if they can get away with it. The league should not allow them to get away with it. The fact they still got their man should be immaterial because they could have just as easily missed out and it would have been Bears fault. Also while I'm on the subject of SHOULDS....86Ward should can the bullcrap that his antiravens bias isn't the cause of his opinions here. He'd feel different if it were the SteAler's in Raven's shoes and would not fault his team for trying to get another pick they felt they were owed, and he and everyone else knows it.
Crap happens! Jerry Angelo even admitted it was his fault. The Ravens still got the guy they wanted and thats what matters. Now, the Ravens need to quit crying about it and move on. They are crying over spilt milk.
Bisciotti has filed a complaint with the NFL over the matter and is still seeking draft pick(s) as compensation...............
