The first kicking battle in Ravens' history won't be settled anytime soon thanks to the fact that while Steve Hauschka and Graham Gano are competing against each other, they are also still learning how to be a kicker in this league. "I don't think they're ready to play today in the National Football League," Ravens special teams coordinator Jerry Rosburg said during this weekend's minicamp, "but we don't have to play today." Hauschka, 23, was the Ravens' kickoff specialist last season as a rookie as well as their long-distance placekicker. "The thing I'm encouraged about is I think Steven Hauschka has improved since I saw him on the field last in January. That's a real positive thing," Rosburg said. "[Punter] Sam Koch demonstrated last year how you can take an offseason and improve before the next season starts. And I think that Steven has done that." Gano, 22, won the Lou Groza Award for the nation's top placekicker in college, converting 24 of 26 field goals last season for Florida State, missing from 52 and 50 yards. "He's got a strong leg, he's athletic, he's flexible, and he's a very willing student as well," Rosburg said. "I think that bodes well for him. It's going to be an interesting battle. It'll be fun to be around. I'm excited about it." Source: Baltimore Sun
