Rays Call Up Prospect Matt Moore

    Matt Moore, the top pitching prospect in the minor leagues, has been called up to the majors by torrid Tampa to join the Rays in time for Monday's game at Baltimore.Moore, a 23-year-old left-hander, is 12-3 with a 1.92 ERA in 27 starts with Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham this season. He has 210 strikeouts and 46 walks in 155 innings.Reached by text Sunday night, agent Matt Sosnick said Moore is expected to pitch in relief.Moore will provide a lift to the Rays' staff as Tampa Bay continues to make a furious charge at a playoff berth. The Rays have won seven of their last eight games and just completed a three-game sweep of Boston to move within 3½ games of the Red Sox in the race for the American League wild-card spot.To make room for Moore on the 40-man roster, the Rays will make a corresponding move Monday.
