PBS Frontline on Tuesday night unveiled its League of Denial, a documentary that dissected the NFL's concussion crisis -- check out our preview here -- and not surprisingly, it was damaging to the NFL. Yet, it's hard to predict whether this documentary will have any far-reaching consequences for the league, ....but for 113 minutes on Tuesday, the NFL's denial about the concussion problem for so many decades was fascinating to experience. Source: CBSSports.com markaz's Take: A program that people must watch to really give an opinion, but from what I saw the NFL really looked silly in their attempt to mask the truth. I only hope this becomes viral so that it can be seen by as many people as possible.
Not interested in watching. Just another part of the witch hunt and money grab. If i could get my hands on every player interview and locker room video/audio prior to 1990, i could put together a scathing documentary that would show the players absolutely knew what they were doing to their bodies. Both sides are guilty to a certain extent, if there was even a "crime" committed.
Good points, CaptainStubing. No argument from me about witch hunts and $$...media outlets have their own agendas and not wanting to watch it at all is understandable. But as someone who did watch it, the degree to which the NFL appeared to try and distance itself from culpability was the real confounder to me. I would think the NFL would try to put its best PR foot forward. The one thing I couldn't, and still can't get out of my mind is in this technologically advanced world, was I looking at unedited content or was I being shown what the media wanted me to see and how I was to see it. In the event you change your mind and want to check it out, I think it's being replayed this Saturday morning. If I remember, isn't KCPT (ch. 19) the public affiliate in KC?
I'm with Cap'n It was hard enough to motivate myself to post in this thread let alone watch more propaganda vs propaganda in this ridiculous saga.
I watched it and it was not a propaganda piece. They told the story of the entire timeline and what was being said and done by both sides. The NFL looked like fools for their denials and asking someone who medically proved his point to retract his findings. Nobody from the NFL would even consent to an interview. The less they say the more it goes away in the court of public opinion. I have less respect for the NFL than I ever have before. Its not going to stop me from enjoying the product, but I know how soulless some of them are, particularly former doctors they used in their commission.
Propaganda? This is an indictment on the NFL. The way they fought Mike Webster tooth and nail to get him medical benefits was just dirty. It's a league that puts the bottom line above everything else. They lack a soul as a group of greedy owners who want to squeeze every dollar possible and not give help to players who's bodies are now broken down after what they gave the game.
The ratings for this show were larger than the usual Frontline episode. It pulled in 2.2 million viewers as opposed to the 1.5 million viewers the show usually gets.
I don't know about the rest of the country, but my local PBS station is going to rebroadcast this program tonight at 9:00, Central time.
