Redskins Agree To Terms With Free Agent DT Barry Cofield On A Six-Year Deal

Discussion in 'Washington Redskins' started by BigBlueBruiser, Jul 26, 2011.

  1. The Washington Redskins tried weakening division opponent New York early Wednesday, reaching agreement with defensive tackle Barry Cofield on a six-year deal, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The 27-year-old Cofield enjoyed his most productive season as a professional in 2010 with a career-high 54 tackles and four sacks for the Giants. The Giants nearly traded the 6-foot-4, 306-pound Cofield to the New Orleans Saints in a 2009 draft-day deal that stalled when the defensive tackle and the Saints could not come to an agreement. The Giants selected Cofield in the fourth round of the 2006 draft.

    Terrible fit.

  4. Article updated......

I can bank on it that Cofield was overpaid. Probably along the lines of around $42M or so.

They have too many DE's, not enough beef in the middle

  7. In a 4-3.....Cofield had Pro Bowl potential.

He would be a better fit in a 3-4 as a DE than NT.

He could be a good 1 Gap NT

The problem is they have no power at the end. So that line would get washed out.

Spears is available. He is the prototype for that type of DE

They should have just stayed with the 4-3, worked fine for them.

Bingo. But he has Albert Haynesworth syndrome. Chase the huge paycheck now, snitch about how bad he is performing and not being used right later.

Either way, it works for me. It makes the Giants a little less good and made the Skins spend a bunch of cash like they always do.

Unless they make another move and sign NT Franklin from the 49ers.

back log of 34 DEs now with him, jarvis jenkins, and adam carriker.

haynesworth wants no part of playing in a 34 but they have kerrigan and orakpo playing OLB now.

    this is a disaster lol
