Redskins Not Ruling Out Drafting A Quarterback At No. 4 Overall

  1. There were several Jason Campbell questions during Donovan McNabb's press conference; the new quarterback said he wasn't trying to come here to steal Campbell's job, and that he hopes to get lunch with Campbell while they're both in the area. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan, meanwhile, called Campbell a class act, and briefly described their recent meeting. "I had lunch with Jason yesterday," Shanahan said. "We had an excellent lunch. Jason was very candid. He had asked me if I would allow him to have the opportunity past April 15 to look for a starting job in the National Football League, and I told him definitely, that we would give him the opportunity to seek out to start for some team before the draft. Now we'll just wait and see. But if doesn't work out, Jason will come back to us, work 110 percent. Obviously he knows the situation right here, and we're gonna give him every opportunity to seek what he's looking for." Kelli Johnson later asked him a similar question after the press conference: "He wants an opportunity to start for a football team," Shanahan repeated. "I said hey, the chances are that you'll have that opportunity. Take a look and if you find something that you like, it'll work out. If not come back here after the draft and stay on our football team. He's a guy that works extremely hard, he's got high character, and we're going to keep the best players. You can never have enough QBs. You can't just bring a guy in off the street." Johnson noted that the team was still hosting top QB prospects like Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy, and Shanahan suggested that there was nothing odd there. "I think if you take a look at Philip Rivers, when did he start? His third year," the coach said. "You take a look at Aaron Rodgers? His third year. I think a perfect scenario would be a young quarterback coming in here and backing up. You never know what's gonna happen on draft day."

  2. JASON4RMLA

    JASON4RMLA Go Kings!!

If the Rams are dumb enough to pick up Albert Haynesworth's contract, then Mike Shanahan isn't lying about selecting a QB. If the Redskins are still at 4.. The Redskins are going Offensive Tackle.

    86WARD -

Shanahan is lying about drafting a QB...they have no intention of drafting one...this is just jibberish to try and trade down...

    DoubleC i'm ready now...

Yeah right... Even without salary cap, and even with Dan Snyder as the treasurer, you don't take two high-priced QBs in your roster
