The Washington Redskins have signed former St. Louis Rams safety Oshiomogho Atogwe. The team did not disclose the terms of the deal. He spent his previous six NFL seasons with the Rams after being selected in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft out of Stanford. Last season, he played in 16 games—15 of those as a starter—and had 87 tackles, three interceptions, three forced fumbles and two sacks. He was fined $5,000 by the league for grabbing New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush by the helmet on a tackle. Atogwe’s combined 44 forced fumbles and interceptions since the start of 2006 are the most in the league. Source: Associated Press
When will Snyder and the Redskins learn that throwing money around will solve all their problems? It hasn't worked the last ten years and sign show that it ain't gonna change either. But on the subject on hand, I'm sure Otogwe will provide them some nice playmaking ability down the middle, although to say he's a gambler would be an understatement. Be interesting to see how he and Landry work together.
Landry....Hall, he might give up yards but I would take letting a team getting all the way down the field then pick em in the redzone any day. Rogers is a solid man cover corner, and Barnes is just getting better.
Landry is garbage. Worse in coverage then roy Williams ever was, and his form tackling sucks too. He is a highlight reel hit guy. Hall is a desent #2 CB, but he is a terrible #1
I agree with Landry's coverage but they are using him way more in the box now, he is basically a LB. He was on track to have a Pro Bowl season before the injury. The Hall thing can go either way, he shows he can be a game changer, and just to let you know I hate the Skins but they are very talented and can be good and Atogwe will do nothing but help them be one of the more athletic secondaries.
Landry could be better with Atogwe. However I think for them to have a quality secondary, they need a true #1 CB. With Hall being EXTREMELY feast or famine, counting on him to be your pillar on pass defense is asking for trouble. He is a guy that may win 2 games for you in a year by himself, but also be a big contributor to you losing 6
The ironic thing here is that the exact same thing people are saying about Landry needing help behind him were saying about Atogwe last year. If Atogwe is expected to cover LaRon's (and Hall) butt then not only will they be using Atogwe wrongly, but they will get burnt. Atogwe is about the numbers, creating the turnovers and making tackles, in short, the playmaker, not the insurance. The problem there is that Atogwe's numbers have been steadily dropping and by the season starts he'll be 30. On paper, Redskins have got themselves an explosive playmaking secondary who will create plenty of turnovers, but as well know, there isn't enough to go around for everyone.
