Drew Stanton, the Jet for a week last March, said that the Jets told him if Mark Sanchez struggled then "I was going to get a chance to play." But that's not how Rex Ryan looks back at the situation. "I don’t remember that," Ryan said today in rebuttal. "I just know this, I read part of his comments, I felt that we had our quarterback, that we weren’t going to draft a quarterback because we felt really good about our quarterback situation." Stanton signed with the Jets March 16 and was told that he would be the backup quarterback. "How it was portrayed to me was if Mark struggled, I was going to get a chance to play," Stanton told the Indianapolis Star. "It's a delicate situation ... you want him to play at a high level. But (as the backup), you keep mentally prepared to play and if your number gets called, you want to go out there and put your best foot forward." But on March 22, the Jets acquired Tim Tebow -- seeing an opportunity to bring the Wildcat back into their offense and help the team overall. The next day Stanton was traded after the Jets fulfilled his request. Source: Newark Star Ledger
