If the Yankees want to keep Robinson Cano in pinstripes, they may have to dig deep into their coffers. A SportsCenter tweet on Thursday morning delivered the news about the second baseman who will be a free agent: the report from Buster Olney is that Cano is "seeking a 10-year contract worth $305 MILLION this offseason."

    No, that's not a typo.

General manager Brian Cashman declined comment on the negotiations. Brodie Van Wagenen, the agent for Cano, issued a statement essentially saying the same thing.

After the epic pujols debacle, any team that gives a player a contract like that should be kicked out of the league for being goobered.

I think Cano deserves a nice contract but asking for a 10 year, $305 million contract is laughable.

keep looking. Sorry but a second baseman isn't worth that much money. Personally I don't think anyone is worth that money. So easy to pitch around him and why pay that much for defense.

huh? having a 2B that crushes and plays good D is a HUGE asset to a team. he's the best 2B in the game right now.

someone will drop around $250 mill on this guy because he is just that good and the market for a player of Cano's caliber has been set very high. whether or not the market price for players like this is appropriate is a whole different story but that is what he is earned according to the market in baseball.

At this point, I think only the Dodgers can afford that.

we'll see. supposedly, each team is getting an additional $20 mill next season from the tv contracts so someone may look at Cano as a freebie with their extra revenue.
