Beautiful conditions on Super Bowl Sunday in February 2014 could determine whether or not another big game is held in an outdoor stadium in a cold-weather environment. Commissioner Roger Goodell, speaking after delivering the commencement speech Saturday at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, didn't rule out another outdoor adventure in the cold. But it sounds like no decisions on another one will be made until after Super Bowl XLVIII. Rain and 35 degrees that day might ensure it never happens again. "New York is a very unique opportunity for us," Goodell said. "It's the largest media market and home to two NFL teams. Let's see how the success is in New York and we'll go from there." It should be played outside regardless of weather. Hell, the more adverse conditions the better. It's NFL football, not indoor soccer. I understand why they would want good weather or indoor play for the comfort of the fans, but heck that. Mud, snow, cold, fog, rain, bring it on, some of the greatest games in history were played like that and are so memorable BECAUSE of how great it was to watch these guys fight their way through bad conditions.
I would love to see it at Lambeau but logistically for the League I don't think it would work. I can't imagine the hotel situation in Green Bay would be ideal for the league...
AJ why would anyone want the weather play apart in the SB? Just doesn't make a damn bit of sense to me.
I'm just saying that there are all these historically epic games in which the weather played a huge role, and I don't think the league should shy away from playing the game somewhere just because it could potentially have inhospitable conditions in January. I suppose though, as a Florida guy, your idea of inclement weather is anything below 70 degrees. ;)
