Roger Goodell Has No Solution For Playoff Teams Resting Players

Discussion in 'NFL General Discussion' started by BigBlueBruiser, Jan 15, 2010.

  1. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Friday that while he's troubled by playoff teams resting key players in late-season games, he does not have a mechanism to prevent it right now. Goodell said last week the league would look into solutions, including possible incentives so that teams that have clinched playoff berths continue to play hard in late-season games "Honestly, we don't have a solution for it. We've had a lot of suggestions. A lot of people have talked about things from making scheduling changes to re-seeding the playoffs. A couple people have suggested the idea of potentially modifying the draft in certain ways. But none of these have been studied in depth."

Good, but I'm sure he will think of something that will be more of a punishment than an incentive.

Going 14-0 gives a team the right to do what it wants. Leave it alone.

Right. Ugh, I'm tired of people snitching. I understand that fans are a big part of the league, but why jeopardize someone's career, or hell, your team's postseason chances by getting an integral player hurt?

its a judgement call and who is to say a team played hard, or sat players for rest, or due to injury? it's an imperfect system but it needs to be left alone. The integrity of the league is really at stake IMO, if you start offering incentives or deterents on judgement calls

I wonder what solution Godell will seeking, when no player from the SB teams will attent that crapty Pro Bowl a week before the big game?

  8. Offering draft picks to teams who play key starters after they have everything locked up seems more like a form of bribery than an incentive. Why should playoff teams care about gaining extra draft picks when the draft is months away? Their focus should be on winning The Lombardi Trophy. Its just all about the money to Goodell and the NFL.

of course he has no solution. there is no logical way that the league office could get involved in punishing or rewarding certain teams in regards to this subject.
