The kick is up and it is no longer good. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told the NFL Network that the league's competition committee could consider abolishing the PAT. "The extra point is almost automatic," Goodell told NFL Network. "I believe we had five missed extra points this year out of 1,200 some odd [attempts]. So it's a very small fraction of the play, and you want to add excitement with every play." Link Personally I hope this doesn't fly. Why is he so hell bent on changing the game?
I would so be down with no field goals there the worst way to win a game a foot fairy comes out of no where and wins and game and hops off like the f*g he is. Grind it the freak out until you can score a td would be so much more awesome.
Eh, its not just goodell. This has been suggested by many in the league for some time. I suppose eliminating pats and only having 2 pt conversions would be fine with me.
Yea I don't think I would miss it at all. It would just be interesting to see how the new system would work. I'm not overly confident in the NFL 's ability to not screw this up.
Move the PAT to the 30 or 35 yard line. Not only does it stop being "automatic", but teams would rather go for two more often, if there's wind and/or rain or they have a lousy kicker. Better yet. Make the player who scores the TD kick the PAT (from the 2, as always). Kind of like a free throw in the NBA. It would be hilarious to see a player like Marshawn Lynch line up as a kicker.
I would have been hell bent against this in the past as a purist, but the game has changed so much any way. Going for two every time is fine with me. Nobody gets excited for a PAT.
