Romeo Crennel could get fined and the Chiefs stripped of a draft choice for comments their head coach made at the NFL scouting combine. Crennel may have run afoul of the league’s policy on tampering with his comments on two quarterbacks who play for other teams, Peyton Manning of Indianapolis and Chad Henne of Miami. During a news conference, Crennel was asked about possible Chiefs interest in both players. On Manning, who is under contract with the Colts but soon could be released, Crennel said, “I’m not supposed to talk about anyone else’s players. He’s still a player with Indianapolis. But with a talent like that, I would be crazy not to consider it if he were available. I’ll leave it at that.†Henne, a potential unrestricted free agent, played last season for new Chiefs offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. On Henne, Crennel said, “Because of his relationship with Daboll, I think that would be a consideration. To say right now that would be the case, I’m not ready to do that.†Source: Kansas City Star
That's a stretch..... Hyperbole is not tampering, IMO. Is there a president for this? I am sure this type of comment has been made before.
yep, coaches and front office people say stuff like this all the time. not sure why this is any different.
So basically you're never allowed to mention a player on another team under any circumstances now or its tampering?
Just take the Valdermort approach. " I have a lot of interest in he who shall not be named but I think that he who shall not be named is an amazing football position player and could do amazing things here with the Chiefs if that individual may be available." Screw the NFL!
"I'd be interested in any player that has had multiple neck surgeries. Especially ones that occurred in the year 2011. By the way...no offense to Matt Cassell...and I mean offense...not OFF fence. Not that he's not good...well, I'm just saying...neck surgeries...I'm all in."
