We're still a few weeks away from the NFL draft, but is it ever too early to begin assessing the fantasy football rankings for the year ahead? The rookie class will obviously alter the look of fantasy drafts, but we're prepared to kick out a truncated mock before that time. As you'll see, the choices and comments make some assumptions about the real NFL draft. Note: Picks are made for a basic, yardage and touchdown-based league. It's non-PPR and non-keeper. Also, the choices displayed below are the opinion of one man, albeit a handsome man at that. LT is still the No. 1 player in fantasy football.Round 1 1 (1). RB LaDainian Tomlinson, Chargers Comment: Duh. He's amassed at least 1,775 total yards and 15 touchdowns in six straight seasons. 2 (2). RB Adrian Peterson, Vikings Comment: Unless Bryant McKennie is brawls his way off the roster, you have to love Peterson's potential 3 (3). RB Brian Westbrook, Eagles Comment: The third pick is subject for much debate. Westbrook is wicked talented and will be working behind the same group of blockers. For now, he's my pick here. 4 (4). RB Joseph Addai, Colts Comment: Go, go, go Joseph! Addai and the amazing technicolor dream Colts didn't end 2007 as well as planned, but he still scored 15 touchdowns in 15 games. 5 (5). QB Tom Brady, Patriots Comment: Moss and Welker are still there, right? Then there isn't much to worry about. Brady could throw 15 fewer touchdowns and still be worthy of this spot. 6 (6). RB Steven Jackson, Rams Comment: Please, please, please draft Jake Long. 7 (7). QB Peyton Manning, Colts Comment: Marvin Harrison's health could come into play here, but I still feel better placing my team in Peyton's hands than in any of the next running backs. 8 (8). WR Randy Moss, Patriots Comment: He could catch 10 fewer touchdowns and still be worthy of this spot. I don't see a surefire, 10-15-touchdown running back on the board, except for 9 (9). RB Marion Barber, Cowboys Comment: This is a temporary, high point for MBIII, who will undoubtedly find a rookie (possibly a first-rounder) cutting into his carries. It's a shame. 10 (10). RB Marshawn Lynch, Bills Comment: The Bills are bringing back the majority of their offense and should (in theory) have a more steady passing game to complement Lynch. I like the potential. 11 (11). RB Clinton Portis, Redskins Comment: Yes, I've always been a big Portis fan, but in 2007 he piled up 1,600 total yards and 11 touchdowns without the services of right tackle Jon Jansen and right guard Randy Thomas. 12 (12). RB Frank Gore, 49ers Comment: The 49ers lost Justin Smiley and Kwame Harris, could lose Larry Allen, and gained an offensive coordinator who doesn't like to run the ball. Am I really supposed to be excited about Gore? Round 2 12 (13). RB Willie Parker, Steelers Previous pick: Gore Comment: The Steelers haven't replaced Alan Faneca yet, but I'm going to assume they'll use their first-round and a couple other picks on offensive linemen. 11 (14). RB Larry Johnson, Chiefs Previous pick: Portis Comment: As with Parker, I hate the offensive line situation, but I like the talent. LJ would benefit from actually showing up to training camp this year. 10 (15). WR Terrell Owens, Cowboys Previous pick: Lynch Comment: The Cowboys have all the pieces in place to win 13 games and set themselves up for another disappointing playoff loss. 9 (16). RB Willis McGahee, Ravens Previous pick: Barber Comment: As with Parker and LJ, McGahee's offensive line has me a bit worried, but I like the Cam Cameron hire. 8 (17). QB Tony Romo, Cowboys Previous pick: Moss Comment: All the key components of the Cowboys offense will be back, with the exception of Julius Jones leaving and Terry Glenn possibly being healthy. 7 (18). WR Reggie Wayne, Colts Previous pick: Manning Comment: He had at least 60 yards or a touchdown in all 17 games (including playoffs) last year. A healthy Harrison could hurt his numbers, though. 6 (19). WR Braylon Edwards, Browns Previous pick: Jackson Comments: With Kellen Winslow and Donte Stallworth around, opposing defenses won't be able to focus more attention on Edwards. That's good news. 5 (20). RB Ryan Grant, Packers Previous pick: Brady Comment: Samkon Gado looked awfully good for the Packers a few years ago, too. Grant seems more like the real deal, but this is the highest I can put him for now. 4 (21). RB Laurence Maroney, Patriots Previous pick: Addai Comment: You saw how he finished the season and rocked in the playoffs, right? 3 (22). RB Mo-Jo Drew, Jaguars Previous pick: Westbrook Comment: Not-so-fragile Freddy can't stay healthy again, right? Jones-Drew has 24 touchdowns in his first two seasons despite a backup role. 2 (23). WR Larry Fitzgerald, Cardinals Previous pick: Peterson Comment: For the moment, I'd rather choose a fat, giggly Cardinal than one of the two disgruntled Bengals. 1 (24). RB Brandon Jacobs, Giants Previous pick: Tomlinson Comment: I hate the injuries, but the Beast was awfully good when he was healthy. If Jacobs pans out, this team will be tough to handle with an LT-BJ backfield. To see Rounds 3 & 4: Rototimes.com
Brian westbrook ahead of Addai in a non PPR? That makes no sense and Willie Parker ahead of LJ? Both do not make lots of sense to me but like the article states its way early
Both seem fair to me. Johnson won't do anything great unless the Chiefs improve their OL, but actually the same goes for Parker:icon_confused: hmm, ah well I would still have Parker higher right now.
Willie Parker is a 1st round pick. Moss is not a 1st round pick, he's a 2nd. Larry Johnson is not a 2nd round pick, he's a 3rd. Willis McGahee is not a 2nd round pick, he's a 4th. Other than those picks, not bad.
