Route-Running A Factor In Terrell Owens Moving To 4th Team In 4 Years?

Discussion in 'NFL General Discussion' started by BigBlueBruiser, Jul 3, 2011.

  1. Dan Pompei of the National Football Post writes that a front office man points out that one of the reasons Terrell Owens will be moving on to his fourth team in four years this year is he doesn’t always run his route the way he is supposed to and he leaves a lot of gray area for the quarterback. Last year, he led the NFL in most interceptions as a targeted receiver with 12, according to Stats, Inc. What’s more, he has led the league in the category with 43 interceptions over the last five years. And another issue with T.O? He was third in the league in drops last year with 11.

Pretty good? I would say T.O. is a top 5 WR of all time. Pretty good?? lmao

Yea, "pretty good" is worth a chuckle but T.O. would be lucky to crack the top ten IMO.

The points Pompei wrote about is a good reason why...

I could see top 10 but top 5 is a little high imo.

Name 10 WR's who are better? Numbers don't lie...

I can only name a few..

    1. Rice
    2a. Moss
    2b. T.O.
    3. Then the rest...

I am not really a T.O. fan, but the guy is/was dominate. Besides Rice and Moss I can't think of a more dominate WR. I know he has had suspect hands and can be an butthole to teammates, but he is one hell of an athlete and one hell of a WR.

I am not trying to argue but I would love to see your list of 10 better WR's.

Like I said in my last post.. Please post up who you think is better than T.O.?

And again, not trying to argue, but I would love to see who ppl think is better..

    Happy 4th!! :)

If we go strictly by his ability as a WR he's top 3 or 4. But I take into account his terrible attitude and what a bad teammate he's always been. That knocks him down the list for me. His "antics" kinda put a stain on his career.

That is what I am going by.. His skills. If we put in attitude and "antics" or lack thereof, then we could put Steve Largent in the top 5.... see what I am saying? lol

Love him or hate him T.O. is a top 5 talent.... my .02

"#s don't lie" is fine if you base your choices on stats which some do. Not a bad way to at least get a comparison of WRs going but far from telling the difference of 'great' & the 'excellent' IMO.

As far as T.O. is concerned, those reasons Pompei brought up aren't 'news'. It's been T.O.'s Achilles Heel from day 1 & what keeps him from being ranked higher on my list.

A quick list of names I'd take in my top 10, in rough order:

    Rice
    Moss
    Carter
    Harrison
    Ellard
    Joiner
    Holt
    Largent
    Brown
    Bruce

The margins are so close as to move them around a little but T.O.s flaws are glaring in key moments to me. Besides that, the game is more slanted for the offense nowadays & his size & strength play a big part. Not his fault but if he was back in the day of CBs being able to maul receivers, I'm sure there'd be a ton more drops with more INTs from him altering his routes to get open. The same as some of those older receivers greatly benefiting from the protection with today's rules.

I'm just a football fan. I don't love or hate T.O. His teammate issues/off field antics/drama/celebrations to me has always ranged from disinterested to amused. As a player, I agree, a Helluva athlete/WR but in a Championship setting, game in & game out, I'd take any of those other guys in the crunch, even with today's hands off refereeing.

It's more than just about raw stats IMO...

Rice and Moss are it dude.. Numbers don't lie. I think a lot of ppl will agree with me on this. Show some #'s to prove me wrong.

Numbers do lie. Owens played his whole career in the pass happy NFL

And NO FREAKING WAY Owens was anywhere near Tim Brown

I wouldnt even call Owens better then Irvin. If Irvin played in a WCO and saw the amouint of balls Owens did he would shame owens numbers

    1- Rice
    2- Brown
    3- Carter
    4- Moss
    5- Holt
    6- Irvin
    7- Sharpe
    8- Owens
    9- Jimmy Smith
    10- Andre Reed

WOW.. I have just lost all respect for your football knowledge.lol Irvin? I am a HUGE Irvin fan but T.O. is hands down better than Irvin. Now Tim Brown, that is absolutely arguable. Brown was a stud and a great player.. But he seemed to fall asleep during the playoffs.. Look it up.. :)

With that same frame of mind... what about YAC? Or total yards? Or TDs? Or... catches? I mean really dude?

You clearly dont understand the difference's between the offense Irvin played in and the ones Owens did. Irvin could put up 90- 1500 in offence's that were 45-55 pass to run with glorified slot WR's next to him

Owens has played on pass heavy teams his whole career.

Irvins best season in 1995 had 101 catch's for 1,603 yards on a team that only threw 432 times.

Owens best season in 2000 he had 97 catchs 1451 yards on a team that threw 561 times

    Fairly simple math
