The New Orleans Saints have cut ties with their special teams leader. Courtney Roby has been released in favor of more promising options at wide receiver after five years with the team. Andy Tanner and Preston Parker have had better preseasons while stepping up on special teams enough to help make Roby expendable. Injured linebacker Jonathan Vilma has also made the roster despite rumblings the veteran captain could be in danger of release due to the numbers game at inside linebacker. He had knee surgery earlier this month, and Saints coach Sean Payton previously indicated Vilma's target date to play as the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons. Source: SportsNOLA.com
