Tom Benson, who has owned the New Orleans Saints since 1985, could add to his sports empire today, if the NBA Board of Governors approves the sale of the league-owned New Orleans Hornets to Benson today according to Jimmy Smith of the New Orleans Times-Picayune. The Board of Governors is currently meeting at the St. Regis Hotel, apparently mulling offers from Benson and a group headed by California swimwear manufacturerRaj Bhathal and former minority owner Gary Chouest. Benson initially put in a bid for the franchise earlier this year, but later backed away because of the asking price. Source: The Redzone
Oh man 1 more team saved by their city...one less potential Seattle SuperSonics 2.0....:icon_rolleyes:
Personally I don't like this move. Now he has a football team, a basketball team and an Arena team. He should thank all of Louisiana for the chance to afford this. We paid for it. We love our team but we really don't like the owner. One Super Bowl does not totally erase all what he did to the fans. We should have had more championships but he was not into putting a good team on the field for years.
not sure what the trampnuts are? Our state paid him over a hundred million dollars to subsidize the Saints leading up to Katrina. Said he wasn't making money. That was a lie cause they sold out the dome for like 4 years in a row while fielding a crappy team. They won just enough to keep the fans sorta happy but not worried about winning. He knew we would support this team regardless. Then he tried the slick side move of using Katrina to move this team. But he underestimated the backlash to come his way. Now he is making money hand over fist. Not bad for an 80 million investment.
