ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported, via sources, that New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees won't sign the franchise tag tender and has no plans to show up for training camp if a long-term contract isn't reached by the July 16 deadline. According to ESPN, Brees is still seeking a five-year deal worth $20.5 million per year, while the Saints' last offer was for $19.25 million per year. This threat has always loomed over these contract negotiations as the doomsday scenario. And it is Brees' best leverage as he tries to get the Saints to increase their contract offer. As of 3 p.m. central time on Monday, Brees and the Saints can no longer sign a long-term deal until after the season.

good....threats = posturing, which means a deal is really close

Mortensen is the same reporter who swore that Michael Vick wasn't going to jail for the dog fighting charges BTW

Tom Benson needs to give the man what he wants. The Saints need Brees in the worst way right now.

When you go cheap & franchise your QB you piss him off...

& when you piss him off, he blows off steam by walking along the levees,
& when the levees break, the paparazzi catches Brees walking on water,

& when there's actual proof Brees can walk on water,
Cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good,
Now, cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good,
When the levee breaks, Tom, it's too late to pay...

Mean old levee will teach Bensen to weep & moan....
Mean old levee will teach him to weep & moan...
Got what it takes to make your Savior QB leave his home,
Oh, well, oh, well, oh, well.

Don't wait to see Brees on the 11:00 news walking on water,
don't be a miser & just pay the man...
    Before the levee breaks....

You should lay off those shrooms, lol.

If they cut Brees, New Orleans would riot.

Either the Saints need to give him what he wants or Brees needs to accept the Saints offer. Seeing this on the news every freaking day has worn thin. Do Brees and Dwight Howard have the same agent?

i think this is just a final game of chicken between Loomis and Condon......my gut tells me the Saints have made Brees an offer he can live with and Condon is making one last push to squeeze a little more out and is using the last bit of leverage he has

If that really is the case, all Condon is doing is hurting his client's image. Instead of the savior of New Orleans and the the guy who "loves football", Brees is looking a little greedy.

He is reportedly asking 20.5 a year and they are offering 19.25. That is so close.

I think where the conflict lies is whst the guaranteed money is and where the money is placed in the contract.

I guess he would want the money placed in his bank account. :)
