The National Football Post has learned that the New Orleans Saints recently worked out defensive end Tony Hargrove. Hargrove was a third-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2004 and traded to the Rams in 2006. He was suspended by the NFL for one year for violating the league’s substance abuse policy in January, 2008 and re-instated in March 2009.

they are stacked at DE, must mean that they are worried that Smith and Grant will be suspended.

He is young and has chance to be pretty good player still. As was stated the Saints are stacked at DE, so as a depth signing I think it is a good move. The guy did have 6.5 sacks in 2006 if I am not misremembering.

Nothing wrong in evaluating your options

I think Saints are doing what every responsible team would do in this case - that is making sure they have a backup plan in case Will Smith and Grant are suspended for one or more games

To be honest I think this whole case is going to end with a compromize - like two gameday suspensions instead of four, but I still hope they win their case.

That said with Tony Hargrove's bagage, he really have a tough job if he wants to convince Payton and G-Dub that his past troubles are behind him. If they sign him, he'll be on an ultra-short leash. He is a good pickup though, IF he can stay out of trouble.

If he stays out of trouble he has the potential to be a great backup and spot starter. He has the talent now lets see if he has the brains
