New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton has suggested the idea of having Bill Parcells serve as an interim head coach of the team while Payton serves his one-year suspension for violating the league's policy against bounty programs, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports. According to Mortensen, Payton, who is considering an appeal of his suspension, has sought the counsel of Parcells, his mentor, over the last few days and has gauged his interest in returning to the sidelines for the 2012 season. One hang-up is that Parcells was a finalist for induction as part of the Hall of Fame's Class of 2012 and returning to coaching this season may delay his eligibility for induction by five years. Another hang-up should be that the 71-year-old Parcells has not coached since the 2006 season and has not coached a team to a playoff win since January 10, 1999.

Wouldn't that reset his hall of fame clock? Would he survive 5 more years?

I really wouldn't mind it. I mean I don't mind the current interim either.

Hell Yeah get him. He would bring some freaking stability to this team. Payton learned under him and has the same attention to detail. Let Pete do his thing with the offense and let Spags do his thing on defense. It would be tougher for either one to do the head coach job and their job. Makes lots of sense. And he has taken every team he has coached to the playoffs.

Why no? Dude is a good coach and knows talent. And he puts up with no bullcrap. I grew up watching his Giants have some great battles. Took a Pats team to the playoffs after them not being relevant for a few years.
