As expected, Auburn quarterback Cameron Newton has declared for the 2011 NFL draft. The "will he stay or will he go" question never seemed to be a huge mystery. It would have been a huge upset had he chosen to stay in school based on his Heisman Trophy season and national title. Several NFL personnel sources have told FOXSports.com that Newton is a sure-fire first-round pick, and that he definitely projects as a quarterback at the next level, but how high he’ll go off the board will be determined by how well he works out and interviews for teams over the coming weeks and months. Because he’s just a college junior, front-office personnel and scouts from the NFL won’t get their first look at the strong-armed passer until late February’s NFL Combine in Indianapolis. Definitely, he's got size good arm strength, and is a very elite athlete, going in the top 10 I guarantee it, of course I have been wrong about quarterbacks before. i.e. Sam Bradford, of course we were all wrong on that one.
Cam Newton is not a top 10 pick. He's good and has a better then average chance of making it in the NFL. I just don't see a team taking him that soon. Maybe trade down and pick up some picks then grab him late in the first. My .02
If Jamarcus Russell can go # 1 and start for a few years, I don't see why Cam Newton won't at least get the chance to start at QB for a few years. I can see Cam going Top 10. I mean honestly think about it. At this point the Panthers, the Bills, the Cardinals, the Bengals(maybe) and the 49ers all need quarterbacks. Newton COULD potentially go to any of these teams. Do I personally think he'll do well in the NFL? Sure, why not. He could either be the next Jamarcus or he can be the next Matt Schaub! Will he ever be an elite QB? I honestly doubt it.
Duke I got mad respect for you and your football knowledge but did you just start a post to prove Newton should be drafted in the 1st rd by using Jamarcus Russell as an example?
