Steelers LB James Harrison To Be Fined For Drew Brees Hit

Discussion in 'Pittsburgh Steelers' started by BigBlueBruiser, Nov 2, 2010.

  1. Two weeks ago, James Harrison threatened to retire and skipped practice after he was fined for a pair of hits on Browns' receivers Joshua Cribbs and Mohamed Massaquoi. The Steelers have to hope that his second fine in three weeks won't push him over the edge. ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that Harrison will be fined for his hit on Drew Brees that resulted in a roughing the passer call. Harrison was flagged for hitting Brees from behind a count too late after Brees has gotten rid of the ball. It was not a helmet-to-helmet blow, but with the NFL in crackdown mode (and Harrison under the very close watch of the NFL offices) apparently it was enough to catch the NFL league office's eyes.

7500 is what it should be, but what will it really be?

I didn't think it was as bad as the commentators were making it out to be, could be the homer in me. I'm sure he'll be fined more than normal.

It really wasn't "that" bad, but it was against Brees and it drew a flag. There is no way that is getting pass Goodell.

It wasn't a bad hit. One that he should not have made, and he was penalized for it. But are they gonna fine for every single late hit? It's not like he hit him the head. He hit him in the back. Stupid move? Yes. If he threatens to retire again - its on him. He knew he was being watched, and I know emotions in the game lead to this stuff, but still. It was so obvious, it's not even funny. But I do not think he should be fine - though I know he probably will be.

i don't think this hit was horrible but i thought the league was going to start suspending multi-time offenders? why just a fine?

Harrison knows the rules. If he can't follow them and doesn't like the results of not following them he can just leave. Shame the NFL doesn't have a certain cutoff for how many times you mess up before they just toss you out.

Reminds me of the Rodney Harrison penalties, many that were border line, but because of his rep, he got the flag. Once you are tabbed on the "dirty" board, the refs don't cut you no slack.
