The Pittsburgh Steelers and wide receiver Mike Wallace are no longer talking long-term contract. That impasse is unlikely to change before training camp, ESPN reports, making it more likely Wallace doesn't show up for the start of camp later this month. Wallace has yet to sign his tender offer as a restricted free agent, that would pay the 25-year-old $2.7 million for the 2012 season, but he is seeking a long-term deal that will get him about five times that annually. Even if Wallace doesn't play at all in the preseason, he can get all of the $2.7 million, the real deadline for Steelers locking up Wallace beyond this season is Week 10. The Steelers don't want a young player as talented as Wallace to walk as an unrestricted free agent next year, but don't expect them to give in to everything Wallace wants to make that happen. It's been ugly up to this point, why would it get better now at the 11th hour? Hope someone snuck him a playbook.
He's been in and out of the facilities. He's got the info, just need to get the on-field reps. I'm a little weary that he will be signed long-term and I think quite a few Steelers fans are starting to think the same. The team keeps saying that they want him long term, but $3M this season, $9M next season and you are sitting on a 2-Year $12M deal...possibly what he is worth...maybe a little less?
hes definitely worth that, hes been so good over 3 years. Hes not larry fitzgerald, but he out performed him in his first 3 years, one year being a #3 and the second years stepping in as a #1. They need him, unfortunately they cant afford him right now long term. he really should lamaar woodley it, but that appears unliekly
My "possibly" was referring to the low end of what he is worth especially with what the Redskuns gave to garçon...lol.
