Super Bowl Moving Overseas?

As many fans of the NFL are already well aware, the league is trying to branch out as much as possible. They have even proposed that each team play one game in another country during the regular season and have already opened the preseason on different continents. Now the league is discussing taking the most beloved game of the entire year and moving it to London. This could turn into something that has the Super Bowl hosted in a different country every year which would deprive the actual fans of the teams of having any chance of attending the game at all.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell claims that it would be great for the sport and the league, as reported by Erick Matuszewski of Bloomberg.com:

"There's a great deal of interest in holding a Super Bowl in London," Goodell told reporters following a luncheon in Scottsdale, Arizona, that was sponsored by the host committee for the 2008 Super Bowl.

The NFL has shifted its strategy for overseas growth from running leagues to bringing audiences regular-season games, with the Miami Dolphins scheduled to play the New York Giants in London on Oct. 28. Goodell said he sees the NFL title game becoming international as well, without giving a time frame.

The NFL shut down its European developmental league in June. Team owners have voted to hold one regular-season game outside of this year and as many as two every year from 2008 to 20011. Organizers have sold 95,000 tickets for this month's game at Wembley Stadium in London, the league said.

The league is also considering changes for the Pro Bowl which could include holding it in current NFL stadiums.

The last game to be played away from America was when the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers faced off in Mexico City and drew almost 104,000 fans. That is the largest crowd to ever attend a regular season NFL contest.

This has to be the worst ideas, I have ever heard. I'm sure we'll be watching the Superbowl, in the middle of the night, eventually, when they do send it overseas.
