As expected, the NFL awarded Super Bowl L to San Francisco and Super Bowl LI to Houston. Miami was the losing city in both cases. San Francisco won out because it will have a $1.2 billion state-of-the-art stadium to showcase the milestone 50th Super Bowl, which will be played in February 2016. That was too much for Miami to overcome—especially after the Florida Legislature recently opted not to vote on a bill that would have provided $350 million in public funding for a critical renovation of Sun Life Stadium. Without the renovation, Miami’s chances were doomed despite its rich Super Bowl history. For the same reason, Miami wasn’t able to defeat Houston in the bid for Super Bowl LI, which will be played at Reliant Stadium in February 2017. Source: Sporting News
