TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona safety Kerry Rhodes says teammate Patrick Peterson will never catch up with his confidence. But, as Rhodes says, "it works for him." In his second NFL season, Peterson does not hesitate when asked if he's already the best cornerback in the game. "I believe so," he said after practice on Wednesday. "I believe I'm playing at a top level right now. Week in and week out, I'm given the opposing team's No. 1 receiver and I believe I'm handling that pretty well so far." It's an attitude instilled in him while growing up in the football-crazy state of Florida, an attitude essential at a position where the odds and the rules are stacked against you. eh, Tillman and sherman are pretty damn good. and there are a couple of injured guys (Webb and Revis) that would have something to say about it. he's certainly in the debate for this season, though. he's had a helluva year. i have no problem saying he's a top 5 cb this season but i would like to see at least 1 or 2 more seasons out of him before annointing him truly a top 5 guy.
I'm pretty sure Tim Jennings may have something to say about that with eight (8) interceptions to Peterson's seven (7). It's one thing to think you're the best, but another to proclaim it. Most fans would say that Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald are probably the top receivers in the NFL (toss in Andre Johnson as well), but they've never announced it. In a long NFL career humility goes a long way in being respected by the fans and a player's peers. Patrick needs to think he's unbeatable, but needs to keep it to himself for the day he schooled for 3 TD's. Until this, I hadn't heard a thing about his opinion of himself.
Interceptions are important, sure. But that doesn't make a top corner. A guy with 10 picks in a season could also give up over 100 yards a game.
i think of peterson when you say best returner but not even this year top cb petersons name doesent come to mind
eh, he's been pretty solid this season at corner. of course, i think chris harris, janoris jenkins, and sheldon brown should also be in the discussion of best 2012 seasons for cornerbacks too, and not the 'big name' cornerbacks that many would bring up just based on name recognition (champ bailey, nate clements, quentin jammer, etc.) but, i'm sure the same guys will get voted to the pro bowl just because people recognize their name.......... :ranting:
I miss sheldon brown as a eagle so bad he did awesome for us and rarley let up a td. Also miss the days of lito shepard when he was good and hell even asante i miss. Also i think of cromartie as a really good corner for the jets he shut down some top receivers this year the jets suck but cromartie has held his own this year i think.
