Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that NFL teams have made calls to the Carolina Panthers to see if WR Steve Smith is available, but they’re reportedly not interested in trading him.

Smith, 33, actually has a reasonable amount of money left on his contract, so there’s a chance that the Panthers could have received a decent draft pick in return for him. Smith will make $3.75 million for the 2013 season, which isn’t anywhere close to being a deal-breaker, and the Panthers could continue to add more draft picks to aid their rebuilding process.

Smith is definitely a talented player, but offers limited value to the Panthers in the long-run.

He'd make a nice addition to a team like the Niners or Texans to strengthen their playoff run. Maybe even the Bears...
