Texans LB Brian Cushing Claims Overtraining Led To Positive Test

The Houston Texans asked the NFL to reduce or rescind the four-game suspension given to star linebacker Brian Cushing on Monday, saying he has a unique medical condition stemming from something called overtrained athlete syndrome. Cushing said the syndrome can trigger hormonal spikes after breaks in training, explaining why he would have tested positive for a fertility drug last September -- a drug he said he never took. "I think that's the final diagnosis we came up with," he said, "and a lot of doctors have supported why this has happened." Cushing was suspended for the first four games this season after testing positive last year for HCG, a drug on the league's banned substance list. Cushing says he never took the drug, which can be used to restart testosterone production after a steroid cycle, and has no idea how it got into his body. Cushing said months of tests show that he had a "unique" medical condition that led to the positive test. "Every individual is genetically different," he said. "I had a unique situation where something like this occurred and we have the science to back it up. It's taken months. It's really beyond what we ever thought and it's beyond the regular medical doctor. We've gone in depth, and there has been a lot of money spent on the research," he said. "There have been a lot of interesting results that I think can help us."

This is perhaps that ballsiest excuse I have ever seen anyone trot out to explain their steroid use. Cushing just keeps making this worse.

If this works...he could be on steroids 24/7 and there will always be an excuse for HCG in his system. You can't suspend a guy for working too hard!

Local MD's were on the radio yesterday laughing at this excuse. He, his agent, and lawyers sat around and this is the best they could come up with?

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

This heckin' guy is trying to use his genetic makeup for the reason he failed a drug test!

Dude, just leave it at 'no comment', please. You'd look like far less of a dumb heck.

No way goodell can let this suspension be reduced because of this he will have everyone in the league claiming this makeup when they fail tests

    Absolutely.

He's from USC. What did you expect? They always try to take the easy way out.

I thought USC educated them better than that. Guess I was wrong.

Even his agent has bailed out on him. Attempts of sports news organizations to talk to the agent has been unsuccessful.

He tested positive for a fertility drug. What did he want to do? Get stronger or have twins?

theres several hormonal drugs you can take post cycle that spike estrogen levels.

while im certain he has been on roids since HS, the suspension is BS because he didnt test positive for steroids at all and tested positive for a slightly elevated naturally occurring hormone, one that could have shown up like that if he got a blow job earlier in the day

OF course he didn't test positive for roids... HE TOOK A MASKING AGENT. :tsk:

Reminded me of the Two and a Half Men episode when a latino handyman (Enrique Iglesias) steals Charlie's girlfriend. Charlie shows up at the girl's place with a fake tan, claiming that he went out for a walk and got that color; he also bleached his teeth and claimed that he brushed them real hard. :icon_cheesygrin:

I guess what I'm trying to say is... Cushing is an idiot for thinking we'd buy his garbage. But you all knew it already.

its not a masking agent, its post cycle treatment.....the roids were out of his system but if he didnt take the post cycle treatment his hormone levels would be all kinds of hecked up....which would be a fine way to justify it, but since its a naturally occurring hormone that CAN spike on its own its hard to justify a suspension to me.

im certain he did them, i feel like hes gettin screwed on the NFL being able to assume he did them based on a test that could or could not be accurate. i just think its hecked up that a hormone that spikes in males after the bust a nut at any given time is on the NFLs ban substance list, im not saying he didnt do them cause im nearly certain he did, the NFLs testing for it isnt concrete and since he wasnt caught doing them or caught with them in his system i cant see a suspension being fair

i think steroids should be allowed, but thats another issue
